Walk into any pregnancy center and you'll see “conviction, compassion, and courage in action” – Cruz introduces Life Month decree

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz praised the pregnancy help movement when introducing a Congressional resolution that commemorates the Dobbs decision by designating June as “Life Month.”

Cruz commended the pro-life movement as, “one of conviction, of compassion, and of courage,” putting the pregnancy help community forth as example.

“Walk into any pregnancy resource center in the country and you'll see these values in action,” Cruz said. “Volunteers counseling scared, young mothers, shelves stocked with diapers and baby clothes and supplies, medical care offered without a dime of government funding.”

“You'll find pastors and priests comforting families, foster parents opening their homes, and women who've walked through the pain of abortion using their voices to offer hope and healing,” he added.

The Texas senator made his remarks from the Senate floor June 5, introducing H.J. Res. 98, the “Life Month Resolution.”

He told his Senate colleagues that this was “to honor the dignity of every human life and to thank those who protect the most vulnerable.”

“Designating June as life month is our way of saying that a just society is measured by how it treats the most vulnerable among us,” Cruz said. “Let June be the month when we recommit to the American ideal, that every single life has dignity - every little boy, every little girl; there is no person who is beneath the law’s protection; that we are a nation, not of death, but of life - a nation that chooses life - and that is a cause to celebrate.”

The resolution calls for June to be recognized as Life Month annually.

Cruz’s resolution cites life as a right given by God as established in the U.S. Declaration of Independence, it states that the ability to protect unborn life was returned to the people and their elected officials via the Dobbs ruling, and says that  “it is the responsibility of the people of the United States and their elected representatives to protect unborn life and to plead the cause of those who cannot plead for themselves.”

The text of the Life Month resolution praises pregnancy help as well, stating:

Whereas faith-based and community organizations, pregnancy resource centers, medical professionals, and countless families across the United States serve as champions of life, offering essential care, resources, and support to pregnant mothers and families in need.

Cruz said from the Senate floor Thursday that the month of June is a time to renew our national commitment to defending the unborn, calling the 2022 Dobbs decision an historic advance in the cause of life.

“The court overturned Roe v. Wade a flawed decision that for nearly 50 years enshrined one of the most disturbing notions in our constitutional history, that the Constitution somehow protects the right to end the life of an unborn child,” said Cruz, an attorney who has argued cases before the Supreme Court.

“The fact is, Roe had nothing to do with the Constitution,” he said. “It was invented whole cloth. It was the product of judicial activism - nine justices legislating from the bench - and that dangerous path took decades to correct.”

Cruz said that Dobbs allowed the task of protecting life to fall back where it always should have been, in the hands of the American people.

“We, the people now bear the duty, not just a legal duty, but a moral duty to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves,” he said.

“I'm reminded of how important this fight is every January when thousands gather in Washington D.C. for the March for Life,” said Cruz, lauding how people from across the nation come together and to march for the unborn and the protection of life.

“Life is not an accident, and it's not a coincidence. It is a joy and a blessing from God,” Cruz said. “Life is the foundation of every other right we hold dear. Without it, there could be no liberty, no prosperity, no pursuit of happiness. That's why defending the right to life is a serious responsibility.”

The Life Month Resolution was co cosponsored by Sens.
