Abortion Pill Reversal pioneer pens book on life-saving APR protocol

Abortion Pill Reversal: Second Chance at Choice by Dr. George Delgado

As chemical abortion numbers have risen to nearly 70 percent of abortions in the United States and many women have regret after taking abortion pills, more women will find themselves in the fraught situation of wondering whether they can reverse their chemical abortions.

One of the pioneers of Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) is releasing a book at this pivotal time discussing the advent of APR, attacks on the life-saving protocol, and how APR signifies hope and another chance at life.

In Abortion Pill Reversal: Second Chance at Choice Dr. George Delgado offers personal accounts from women who have attempted to reverse their chemical abortions and the doctor who performed the first documented reversal, along with testimonies from APR hotline nurses. He also gives an inside look at how and why he established the network now known as the Abortion Pill Rescue Network.

APR offers an alternative to abortion and brings to light the fact that women can regret their choice to have an abortion, a recurring theme among women who have pursued Abortion Pill Reversal which is covered in the book.

“A common thread is almost immediate regret,” Delgado said.

An updated application of a treatment used for decades to combat miscarriage, APR consists of prescribing a bioidentical version of progesterone, the natural hormone in a woman’s system necessary to sustain pregnancy, to combat the effects of mifepristone, the first of two drugs in a chemical abortion.

If a woman has taken mifepristone and changes her mind and she acts quickly enough it may be possible to save her unborn child with APR. Results are best within 24 hours, but reversals have successfully occurred after 72 hours.

All major studies show that using progesterone to counteract an in-progress chemical abortion (Abortion Pill Reversal) can be effective.

A 2018 peer-reviewed study showed positive results, including that 64%-68% of the pregnancies were saved through APR, there was no increase in birth defects, and there was a lower preterm delivery rate than the general population.

Statistics show that to date more than 7,000 lives and counting have been saved thanks to the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol.

While Delgado, an MD and the author or coauthor of three articles in the peer-reviewed literature on mifepristone and APR, founded the Abortion Pill Reversal Network, separately elsewhere in the U.S. Dr. Matthew Harrison conducted the first documented reversal.

“Dr. Harrison was gracious enough to write a chapter about the very first reversal,” Delgado told Pregnancy Help News.

Delgado passed the network he founded in 2012 to Heartbeat International in 2018, at which time it became the Abortion Pill Rescue® Network (APRN). Heartbeat is the largest network of pregnancy help organizations globally and in the U.S.

Delgado, and Harrison, are among the APRN’s medical advisors, which includes nearly 1,500 healthcare professionals, pregnancy centers, and hospitals.

More than 200 women call the APRN each month and start Abortion Pill Reversal, resulting in six reversal starts a day.

Asked what prompted him to author the book, Delgado said, “I wanted to let people know that some women want to reverse their chemical abortions, and we have a safe and effective way for them to attempt that.”

“Also, the Medical-Abortion complex has been vehemently opposed to APR,” he said. “The book is a way for people to read the other side of the story so that they can draw their own conclusions.”

APR has been under attack by abortion proponents in the abortion industry, the medical establishment, government, and the media, including efforts to suppress or discredit the protocol.

Heartbeat International is currently the subject of two lawsuits brought by state attorneys general concerning the sharing of information on APR. Delgado’s private practice is also the subject of APR-related litigation.

“APR has become a focal point of the pro-life movement and a focus of attack by the Medical-Abortion complex,” Delgado continued. “I detail that in the chapter titled “David Versus Goliath: Why Big Abortion Doesn’t Want You to Know About APR.” In other chapters, I discuss the political maneuvers that led to the approval of mifepristone and how the abortion pill industry has grown.”

Heartbeat leadership applauded the announcement of Delgado’s new book.

"No one has a better view on the vital impact of Abortion Pill Reversal than its primary pioneer, Dr. George Delgado,” said Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International. “In the pages of this book you'll see the raging battle just to help women choose to continue their pregnancy."

Christa Brown BSN, RN, senior director of Medical Impact for Heartbeat and executive director of the APRN, concurred.

“A hero in the pro-life movement and the pioneer of the Abortion Pill Reversal treatment, Dr. Delgado's tremendous work continues to save lives every single day,” Brown said. “According to the data of the APR Network, more than 7,000 lives have now been saved.”

“A modest ministry that started in the heart of this physician has now grown to serve women in 96 other countries,” she said. “As a steadfast warrior in the fight for women, families and unborn children, his book shares the history of his incredible work and his hopes for the future.”

Delgado’s book is set for release October 31 from Ignatius Press; pre-ordering is available.
